Personal Credo #13

February 3, 2009

I believe that categorization is killing the world, causing more deaths than any natural disease known to mankind. Our tendency to group and label and place and detect differences is the thing that kills us most. And I believe it is impossible to get rid of, that the human mindset will always be obsessed with the differences between people and not their similarities.

And I do not believe it is completely a bad thing. Without this strange brand of categorization, we would not be able to process the world; our brains would overload with information. This does not mean I relish it, though.

Anyway, if we did not have these problems, I would be out of a job before I ever had one; the arts rely mostly on pain and problems and categorization and speaking one opinion or another on the matter.

I believe in time healing wounds. Very cliche, but very true.

Personal Credo #8

I believe in community, in the sharing of life in all of its richness and harship.

I am the very model of a rugged individualist, but I hate the emptiness of it.

I need the support of community, and I am trying desperately to share myself in community every day. It is hard, but I will succeed, even in spite of myself.

Personal Credo #7

I believe in what some would term “good works.” In more detail, I believe we should help those who are in need, whether that need be physical, mental, or emotional. I also believe no one could ever do enough. that no one can do too many good things for the rest of mankind. We don’t do enough. I believe I go around in my own little unconcerned circle too often. And I have to believe this will change. Without this belief, I would have a hard time getting out of bed, out of my hosue, out of myself.

Personal Credo #6

I believe in the human soul, that every being in this world has one that makes us who we are, regardless of genetics and nature and nurture and where it might be placed in the body. The soul is in essence Self, te being which exists without nurture’s tampering and without the gene’s triggers. It is pure self.
